POSTCARDS FROM CAPTIVA ISLAND

Rebecca Fordham

A WEEKEND ON CAPTIVA ISLAND
PLAYING OUTDOORS FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET

Located on a slip of land just north of Sanibel Island between the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound is Captiva Island.  Where the white sand beaches are home to a mecca of seashells and nightly sunsets. Captiva Island is perfect for bike riding, shelling, swimming, fishing, snorkeling and birdwatching. You can rent bikes for easy transportation and kayaks and paddle boards are available for exploring the bayside or Gulf waters. We spent our days on the beach or at the pool and our evenings watching the family friendly Gatlin Show at the Crow's Nest.

Where to Stay:

The Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa is our favorite place to stay.  The resort is nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound.  It offers a variety of rooms to choose from, a marina, 3 restaurants, 2 pools and so many other amenities that you really never need to leave the resort.  Just a few steps from the Resort was the white sugar sand beach where we found seashells and watched the magnificent sunset…and an end to a perfect day.

Things To Do:

Wearing our favorite Caloosa Ultra Comfort shirts, we made our way down the street to McCarthy's Marina to embark on Captiva Cruises who transported us to  a full day of shelling and beach time at Cayo Costa State Park.  They have many other day cruises to choose from for a fascinating day on the water.

Enjoy a Bite:

The KeyLime Bistro is located in the heart of Olde Captiva. They offer Breakfast through Dinner, music and a top shelf drinks.  And may we recommend the Mahi Sandwich....it was the best ever and we are craving to get back for another.

What to Wear:

Packing for an Island Get Away is easy with Caloosa.  Our weekend bag was packed with sun protective Caloosa WaterWear Ultra Comfort Shirts to wear on the beach, on the bike and anytime in the sun.  In the evening we wore Caloosa Tank Tops and Fishing Shirts....since both of these are wrinkle resistant, and are considered "dressy" by Florida's casual dress code.

Caloosa's Tank Tops are some of the most beloved items in my wardrobe, especially when the heat sizzles in the summertime. Many Caloosa customers tell us they wear our Tanks on repeat because they are comfortable, easy to wear, and lightweight… making them perfect to pack. They effortlessly double as lounge wear or pajama tops too.
